Big Shiny Brass was founded in 2009 by brass arranger Matt Kingston, as an online outlet for his growing output of arrangements.
We started off by focusing on Brass Band music, but were soon inundated by requests for Junior Brass music. Within a couple of years, we’d grown into one of the UK’s most popular resources for junior brass groups.
We’re constantly adding to our vibrant catalogue of music, which now caters for complete beginners (pieces using only three or four notes) through to more advanced junior players.
All our music is available as PDF downloads, giving you a dependable and varied repertoire at an affordable price! Our multiple transpositions also give you a huge amount of flexibility within the ensemble.
As well as junior band music, we also provide music for small (grown-up!) brass ensembles - mostly quintets and quartets.
All our music is still arranged by founder, Matt Kingston. Matt is a versatile and prolific UK-based music arranger and composer. Largely self-taught, he began to compose around the age of seven.
In his early twenties, Matt worked as an assistant to the composer Jaz Coleman, gaining valuable experience of both the popular and classical music worlds, and working with artists including the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.
Matt's career as a brass arranger has seen him produce over 500 published arrangements, mainly for small brass ensembles and beginners. His music has been performed on six continents, in venues ranging from cathedrals to rugby stadiums, as well as appearing on numerous cd recordings, TV and radio broadcasts.
Matt's Music Marvels series of brass and woodwind beginner tutor books, co-written with brass teacher Steve Legge, are published by Warwick Music.
Matt also composes choral music, under the pen name Matthew Coleridge. His Requiem (2016) has been recorded by RSVP Voices, cellist Guy Johnston and organist Stephen Farr.
