To Ancient Light

"To Ancient Light was one of those compositions that fell into place really easily. I wanted to write something with the feel of a hymn tune - hence the simple rhythms and phrasing.

But I also wanted something powerful yet delicate. Sometimes it builds, other times it suddenly erupts.

It's a very straightfoward piece to play - the challenge is in the dynamics, controlling the breath and sustaining the sound"

"We're especially looking forward to playing To Ancient Light in Gloucester Cathedral this month.
Although the notes are straightforward enough, the chords and dynamics have turned the piece into something very Elgaresque and rather special"
