Cuban Overture

"We all know Gershwin's timeless songs, but he wrote some fantastic orchestral music too.

This was inspired by a holiday he took in Havana, with sultry Latin harmonies and lively salsa rhythms.

I've given the euphs and baris a chance to show off their percussion skills at the end - think Disney Fantasy meets Tito Puente!"

"Not for the faint hearted. This Gershwin Overture should be playable by Bands of 3rd section and above. A full band is pretty much essential and everyone needs to be pulling their weight.

I would guess that many lower section bands might lack the players in the middle of the band to pull it off although it's always worth a go..... If you can make it work this will be a thrilling concert item, guaranteed to get the audience's feet tapping.

A good (large) "Kitchen Department" is needed and even then baritones are drafted in to double on woodblock and shaker!!"
