Big Shiny Brass was started in 2009 by brass arranger Matt Kingston.

Matt had been arranging brass music for a few years, and wanted to find a modern, forward-thinking way of presenting it to the masses. Looking at the competition, he decided to do the exact opposite of what they were all doing.

Out went printed music; say hello to online downloads you print yourself. And who says music should be presented in boring black and white? A few wax crayons later and our colourful scores were ready to brighten up your bandroom.

Most importantly, why on earth should brass bands be expected to pay £30, £40 even £50 for one piece of music?!

To begin with, we just offered music for brass bands. Then we launched our junior band series Little Shiny Brass, which soon began to outsell our 'grown-up' music!

And we decided to offer some flexibility too, providing smaller brass groups with music that can be performed with whatever players they have to hand.

Today, we take pride in being able to offer a unique service: instant downloads of brass music; flexibility in the music we provide; a friendly and laid-back approach to both our music-making and our customer relationships; great value for money; and innovative products that brass players are genuinely happy to buy.

Our first three years have been fun and rewarding. And we're excited about a Big and Shiny future!
